Bowen Therapy

Bowen is a gentle but very effective treatment for Body Alignment. Rolling moves are carried out over muscles, tendons and ligaments. These `moves` send information up via the fascia (it lies just under the skin and emcompasses the muscles) to the brain. That information is then translated by the brain, ie, this structure is too tight, there is a problem here and the body makes the necessary repairs. In essence the Bowen treatment is a sort re set for the body. A re-programming as it's the body that does the work.

I love this sentence as it sums up Bowen - The Body is a Genius and Bowen speaks it's language".

Knee problem

If you think of Bowen in comparison to a chiropractor, they adjust the bones, Bowen adjusts the guy ropes of the body, the muscles, tendons and ligaments that stabilise it.

It is not only structural but as it works on SO many different levels, including the emotions or the moves can release trauma, it is indeed an outstanding Body treatment.

If you are suffering from chronic pain due to a medical condition, Bowen therapy can help. Bowen produces an integrated body response, it improves circulation, lymphatic and venous drainage, the assimilation of nutrients and elimination of toxins, joint mobility, posture, clearance of dysfunctional debris and normalization of cellular physiology and tissue integrity. Bowen can help treat the following conditions:

Many of my clients tell me that after their Bowen treatment they feel relaxed and stress free.

Bowen Therapy is a very safe therapy, but not designed to be a substitute for medical advice or treatment recommended by a Doctor. If you are in any doubt about any aspect of Bowen, please consult your doctor. Bowen will work effectively alongside and in conjunction with normal allopathic medicine. These moves are designed to adjust tension levels and stimulate the body’s own healing powers to re-balance and restore health.

In this way Bowen differs from physiotherapy and other modalities, which often involve physical manipulation to address muscle strain, injury or relieve pain.

Another unique characteristic of Bowen therapy is the unique ‘pause’ feature when the practitioner will often leave the room allowing the body to respond in its own time, in between moves.

People seek out a Bowen therapist for many reasons, often when a painful condition worsens, or they get fed up with popping painkillers which simply masks the symptoms. Bowen has been shown to be effective in relieving pain (ongoing and short term) either sudden onset from accident or sporting injury or a chronic long-term condition such as fibromyalgia.

Depending on the needs of the individual 2-3 sessions can sometimes resolve the problem or alternatively the therapist will advise a series of visits to manage a more complex issue.

This gentle, non-invasive treatment is suitable for all from babies to the frail elderly. It has been shown to have an extraordinary effect on a variety of ailments (see image), with back, neck and shoulder problems responding particularly well. It can also help with headache, stress, digestive problems, neurological conditions and RSI (repetitive strain injury).
